1937年歌舞電影插曲經典《Let's Call The Whole Thing Off》與其他音樂，是蓋希文兄弟在好萊塢的作品佳作之一，也藉此曲與此片認識一九三〇年代的“高級”大西洋腔與“平民”美國腔英文差異，以及Ginger Rogers的搖擺舞藝

這是2026年秋季爵士原力講堂第二場中，我們示範演唱與介紹的1937年電影「Shall We Dance」（隨我婆娑）中之經典《Let's Call The Whole Thing Off》，是蓋希文兄弟在好萊塢電影圈的“三部半”作品佳作之一！
男主角故意假裝是來自俄羅斯的古典芭蕾舞大師，但其實他生於美國，女主角則是走平凡通俗路線的踢踏舞者，兩人相愛但是許多用語的發音都不同，所以後來正如歌名所述，我們管它的勒！
當時在美國上流社會會刻意學習英國腔（在三〇年代稱為「大西洋口音」，其實也不是真的英國腔，而是混合英美發音的“上流腔”發音）來顯示比較高級，有教養，所以如果是發比較重的音的是大西洋腔，譬如either（愛惹）、Tomato（投媽頭）..等，比較多ㄝ的音則是美國平民腔，以前被認為比較粗俗，譬如前述的字就變成「伊惹」跟「投妹頭」...等等，其他還有很多字彙的對照
電影裡頭那段螢幕情侶Fred Astaire與Ginger Rogers的溜冰鞋+踢踏舞非常精彩且經典，在美式大眾文化中非常知名且經常有人致敬或模仿、延伸，主要是要設計兩位演員都非常會跳舞、跳起來很漂亮的姿態
而大家會聽到George與Ira Gershwin兩兄弟，弟弟George一樣寫了Verse（前奏演唱段）以及Chorus，還有後面的管絃樂片段延伸，哥哥Ira則是非常厲害地把各種字彙的發音放進曲中，造成Swing滿點且趣味十足的歌詞

值得一提的是，在電影版中因為後面要展現男女主角的漂亮舞技，所以沒有唱第三個Chorus的歌詞，後世許多歌手也都唱到第二段就沒了，但是1959年Ella Fitsgerald「Ella Fitzgerald Sings the George and Ira Gershwin Song Book」的獨唱詮釋版本中，的確忠於原著，將第三段歌詞唱完，但這也就沒有即興的段落了，整個是爵士大樂團的編制編曲，由知名的爵士大樂團編曲家Nelson Riddle編曲
所以說在歌手的領域不是那麼以即興不即興，來區分是不是爵士樂？但Ella Fitzgerald卻也是人聲爵士即興高手喲！
在1959前兩年的1957年，Ella Fitzgerald與Louis Armstrong的第二張合作專輯「Ella and Louis」，邀請了當時最棒的爵士樂高手們如Oscar Peterson（鋼琴）、Ray Brown（貝斯）、Louis Bellson（爵士鼓）、Herb Ellis（吉他）四人，也再度詮釋這首經典歌曲，不過就是唱到大部分人唱到的第二個Chorus為止，但是一樣也有Verse，沒有單獨即興段落，而著重在樂手的構築與互動，以及點綴性的即興了！

這對螢幕情侶從1933年一路合作到1938年，Ginger Rogers在1940年更榮獲了奧斯卡金像獎最佳女主角獎，也慢慢轉換跑道，轉往舞台劇演出，而電視上則多以綜藝表演節目為多，但有時候在一些知名的熱門影集中也會驚喜客串，我們最後來聽聽，從14歲就因為參加德州Charleston舞蹈大賽得到冠軍而出道的Ginger Rogers，在1942年的電影「Roxie Hart」中所表演的《Charleston》
以及1971年於「Here's Lucy」（我愛露西）電視影集中客串演出，已經是優雅年長的女士，卻能跳著熱力十足且令人回味無窮的《Charleston》片段，我在介紹Charleston音樂特色與舞蹈風格時，也用這段精彩演出讓大家更快理解Swing的律動
