熟悉音程聲響真的非常重要，也是訓練一位音樂家非常重要的部份，因為如果你「聽」不出音程，你就無法於其上作文章，更遑論奢望學好強調即時互動與著重（甚至抗衡）和聲色彩的爵士樂即興囉！其實大部分的人都是相對音感（Relative Pitch）的，不可能像具有絕對音感（Perfect Pitch）的人一樣，聽到什麼音就是什麼音，所以強迫式的音程熟悉訓練就相形更顯得重要，辛苦一段時間，讓每種音程的聲響都深植腦海之中，甚至按任何一個音，然後演唱／演奏指定的音程，對於即興演奏絕對有莫大的幫助。
可是如果還是有人真的一點概念也沒有呢？別擔心，我們要採取雙管齊下且有效率的方法，幫助各位很快地辨認出音程關係︰請找出以下所有樂曲的錄音（如果有樂譜的話也可自己先彈彈），我們用爵士經典曲（Jazz Standards）的開頭段落來幫忙，效果會很大，以後在唱特定音程時，你就“心裡有數”了！
因為用既定而著名的動聽旋律，總是比硬梆梆的練習還要好記得多，以後當各位聽到一個音及指定之上行下行音程時，運用這個方法就可以很快地上手，又能辨認出音程，又對眾多必學經典曲有更深刻的印象，何樂而不為呢？別再找藉口了！曲子都幫各位列出來了，專輯出處也都附上了，拜託去買些爵士唱片吧！這些曲子與專輯、樂手都是爵士音樂家的必備常識（General Business），來日必有大用的：
